In 2025, Kia's PBV range will start with the mid-sized PV5, followed by the large PV7, and then the small PV1. By combining the PBV platform with different upper bodies, our PBV range will be available for multiple uses, including carpooling, logistics, and personal lifestyle activities. The vehicle design will be robust and simple, and all functions will be easy and intuitive to use.
Kia will expand mobility, which has been limited due to the narrow range of vehicle options, and meet the diverse needs of our customers.
PBV production system
Kia began construction of its EVO plant in Hwaseong, dedicated to PBV, in 2023. The plant will implement an innovative production process that combines a new cellular method with the traditional conveyor system, and will soon introduce Dynamic Hybrid technology to respond more flexibly to various customer needs.
Product development process
Kia has innovated in the product development process by providing customized vehicles that meet the specific needs of corporate clients, incorporating their requirements into our software solutions.
During the first day of PBV partners in 2022, Kia unveiled vehicles under development for the first time to its national and international clients, as well as conversion partners, in order to gather feedback on their business needs. Our potential clients appreciated Kia's initiative to create a process that addresses issues from the customers' perspective, leading to further business collaborations.
Conversions
Conversion is a method that involves modifying a vehicle to adapt it to specific uses, often by installing specialized equipment or structures on the vehicle's base chassis. Traditionally, vehicles were modified to meet the specific needs of the industries in which they were used.
Kia has revolutionized the conversion process. We are establishing the PBV Conversion Center to develop and produce conversion models comparable to Kia's factory-made models. We will collaborate with specialized R&D and production companies to create customized conversion models that meet various customer needs. Our goal is to develop and produce a variety of conversion models of higher quality than existing specialized models.
Solutions
Kia's PBV embedded display solutions are designed to make everyday life as smooth as possible. They recognize the needs of vehicle users and fleet operators in real-time, automatically load user profiles, presets, and preferences, and provide rich in-vehicle experiences.
Furthermore, Kia's Fleet Management System (FMS) solution allows optimizing PBV operations while ensuring the stability of the company through active data collection and management. By using the vehicle data API, large amounts of data generated during PBV operation can be connected to the AI Cloud for more efficient fleet management in real time.
Kia PBV will also offer various service solutions, such as comprehensive energy solutions and preventive maintenance solutions.
Future business of Kia
Kia will align its PBV business on Hyundai Motor Group's key future ventures, including robotics, AAM (Advanced Air Mobility), and autonomous driving, in order to implement them in smart cities.
In the field of robotics, Kia will revolutionize manufacturing and logistics by using robots from Boston Dynamics. The AAM will bring smart cities closer to reality by providing multimodal services and mobility centers in collaboration with Supernal. Regarding autonomous driving, Kia is developing a Robotaxi with Motional and aims to achieve level 4 autonomous driving in the near future with Motional's third-generation system.
